As more and more parents are discovering kids podcasts and seeing them as a great alternative to excessive screen time, there has never been more kids audio content available. Fortunately we have curated a list of our top recommendations for parents looking to get their little ones listening more and watching less! Check out our list of 10 of the best podcasts for kids.

‘Once Upon A Time In Zombieville’ - Aimed at 9 - 12 year olds. This podcast won the award for Best Family Podcast at the British Podcast awards in 2018. The show is set in a sleepy town in America and follows our heroes, Jamie and Samantha as they try to stop evil billionaire ‘Voom Buckstop’ from turning their friends and family into Zombies and taking over the world. The podcast has a strong focus on diversity and equality and subtly teaches kids about morals, ethics and the ways of the world. Parents will enjoy a few jokes added in for them, the similarities between Buckstop and US President, Donald Trump as well as the retro inspired synth score!

'Story Pirates’ - This podcast for kids has been around for a good while now and has been one of the big success stories in this space. The premise of the show is that kids write in with stories and the Story Pirates (a group of world class actors, comedians and musicians) turn them into musical comedy sketch shows for your ears!

'Wow in the World’ - This one will appeal to most ages and is arguably the most popular podcast for kids. This is NPR’s first podcast made for younger ears and as you would expect from NPR it’s well produced and thought out. Hosts, Mindy Thomas and Guy Raz take the listener on a journey each week, themed around science and technology. There is a tremendous amount of enthusiasm in this podcast and each week the audience are encouraged to write in to the show with their thoughts and questions

‘The Unexplained Disappearance of Mars Patel’ - We love a good fiction podcast, especially one made for kids! ‘The Unexplainable Disappearance of Mars Patel’ was one of the first notable podcasts for kids and as a result won a Peabody award for it’s great storytelling and authentic characters. Described as “The Goonies meets Spy Kids meets Stranger Things for 8 - 12 year olds” this show will keep your kids entertained and provide a great introduction to the world of podcasts.

‘Short & Curly’ - The producer’s of this show describe it as a fast paced ethics podcast for kids that has been designed to listen to on your own or as a family, with thought provoking questions to think about and discuss. Each episode poses a tricky question centred around school, pop culture or science & technology. Produced by Australia’s ABC network, this is one that will entertain and educate.

‘What If World’ - The clever thing about this podcast is that it sources creative ideas from kids and turns them into very clever and fun stories. Evidently no idea or “what of” is too whacky for author and host Eric O’Keeffe, for example: “What if clocks were bananas and monkeys ate them”. It’s a great question!

‘Brains on Science’ - This podcast is hosted by kids and focuses on a different science lesson each week. Kids write in with their science questions and the experts behind the show answer them in a fun and educational way.

‘This Podcast Has Fleas’ - This show first came to our attention during the 2017 Kidscreen Summit (an industry event we attend each year). Not one that tends to pop up on the usual lists of podcasts for kids but one that probably should! The show is a comedy series about a cat and a dog who have competing podcasts and features a stellar cast including Alec Baldwin, Jay Pharoah and Emily Lynne.

'Unspookable' - We love this podcast, fans of the adult podcast ‘Lore’ will enjoy listening to this one with their kids. It’s a family friendly look at the histories and mysteries behind your kid’s favourite scary stories, myths and urban legends. Recommended for ages 8+.

'The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian' - This show is a great introduction to serialised shows and science fiction for the younger listener. The show follows the space adventures of Finn Caspian, his friends and their pet robots! What’s not to love!
